Accountants and Business Advisors are Not Lawyers

Wednesday, November 22, 2023

Too often we are being asked for advice on supposed 'draft legal agreements' prepared by ‘business advisors’.

These people should not be carrying out legal work.

Our rates and fixed prices are lower than the prices charged by many Perth Commercial law firms because we own our offices so we don't pay the exorbitant St George's Tce rent that many commercial law firms do scontact us today.

Apart from the fact that it leaves them open to prosecution pursuant to Section 12 of the Legal Professional Act 2008 and a significant fine, they always make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes can’t be fixed depending on how far down the track the client has taken the agreement.

If you want to have legal work done by non-lawyers, or do it yourself, be our guest but you have to ask yourself if you had appendicitis would you dispense with the need for a surgeon and perform your own appendectomy, with or without pain relief.

Liability limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.
